Frankfort - Clifton Park - Mr. Leonard Tex Caivana, 86, of Clifton Park, formerly of Frankfort passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Frankfort on July 9, 1922, the son of the late Robert and Mayme Pace Caivana. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort High School. He served with the United States Army as a Sergeant during World War II in the European Theatre and was honorably discharged on February 17, 1946. Tex was united in marriage to Mary Jane Campulugo on January 31, 1959 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Mrs. Caivana passed away on April 26, 1987. Mr. Caivana was employed in the Custom Repair Department for Remington Arms, Ilion, for over 41 years until his retirement in 1983. Tex served his community as a Police Officer for many years and following his retirement, worked with the Morris Protection Agency. He was a Communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and was a member of St. Francis Di Paolo Society and the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department where he served as a Past Chief. For over thirty years, he served as an official for basketball and football games and coached Little League.
Tex is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Rosann Caivana of Frankfort; two daughters and sons in law, Linda & Carl Latella of Frankfort and Lorrie & Keith Bartlett of Cohoes; 8 grandchildren, Bobby Caivana, Danielle Caivana, Carl Latella Jr, Geno Latella, Matthew Latella, Michael Latella, Brenda & Dave Hansen and Sarah Bartlett; his sister in law and constant companion, Joan Caivana of Clifton Park; his very special in-laws, Josephine & Hale Chauvin of Frankfort and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Francis Caivana; and one sister, Carmel Caivana.
His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort, and 10:00 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, Pastor Emeritus. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department will meet Friday evening at 7:00 and the St. Francis Society at 7:15 at the funeral home for services. Tex's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Nelson, and the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Memorial Hospital's 4th floor for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.
