Mr. Demian Karmaluk Herkimer - Mr. Demian Karmaluk, 90, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wolyca, Province Of Wolyn, Ukraine on January 7, 1918, the son of the late Peter and Zynovia Karmaluk and he attended schools there. He was married to Anna Olifier in Germany. He and his family came to this country in 1950. Anna passed away on January 8, 1968. He was later united in marriage to Mary Boguski Long on September 19, 1969 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Rev. Eugene Narushevych, pastor. Mary passed away on May 4, 2002. Mr. Karmaluk was employed by Standard Furniture, Library Bureau, Remington Arms, Burnalli Construction Co. and lastly as a machinist for MDS for many years until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and served as its Cantor and choir director. He was a member of the AARP, Outreach of Richfield Springs, the Herkimer Senior Citizens and served as a volunteer at the Salvation Army. Demian is survived by his beloved daughter & son in law, Zinna & David Klossner of FL, his granddaughters, Jennifer Klossner, Brenda & her husband, Jeffrey Guirastante and their children, Brice and Amanda; his daughter & son in law, Stella & George Mang of FL, his granddaughters, Lisa & her husband, Gary Goggins and their children, Chelsea, Brianna and Brandon, Christina & her husband, Rod Goodwin and their children, Zeena and Hailey and Zinna & her husband, Rob Coulter-Phurley and their children, Robbie and Lola; his step daughter & son in law, Mildred & Carl Fleischer of FL and their children, Timothy Mahon, Christopher Mahon; a special niece, Vera & her husband, John Juliano and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:00 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church with the V Rev Ivan Semko, pastor & Rev Fr Mykola Krywonos officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Parastas will be held Sunday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home with Father Semko officiating.
