Mr. Stanley M. Czuba
Herkimer - Mr. Stanley M. Czuba, 88, of 331 Eastern Ave passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Bassett Health Care.
He was born in Herkimer on May 1, 1919, the son of the late Martin and Ida Zakriski Czuba and he attended Herkimer schools. He served with the US Army during World War II and was Honorably Discharged on June 25, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the 1056th Engineer Port Construction and Repair and they participated in the Algeria-French Morocco Campaigns, Tunisian Campaign, Sicily, Normandy and the Rhineland. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries sustained on August 6, 1944 in France. He was married to Alexandria Dziubek on January 3, 1942 in Lowell, MA. Mrs. Czuba passed away on May 8, 2002. Stanley was a Mill Wright by trade and was employed by Univac in both the Ilion & Utica Plants for many years. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of V.F.W Post #4915, Herkimer, the Military Order Of The Purple Heart, Excelsior Hook & Ladder Co #3 and the Herkimer County Volunteer Firemen's Association. His greatest hobbies were bowling, golfing and puttering around the house.
Stanley is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Etienne of Utica; one son & daughter in law, John & Patricia Czuba of AR; four grandchildren, Michael & his wife, Stephanie Czuba, Deborah Ann Czuba, Leon Etienne and Matthew Etienne; five great grand children, his beloved canine, Willie and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son in law, Peter Etienne on March 7, 2006 and his sister, Frances Czuba on October 11, 1999
His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 am in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the V.F.W will meet Wednesday evening at 6:30 at the funeral home for services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Stanley's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502-5949 or the American Heart Association, Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
