Obituary of Tony & Jennie Migliore

Please share a memory of Tony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Tony Migliore and Mrs. Jennie Migliore Frankfort - Mr. Antonino, aka Antonio, Anthony, Tony Migliore, 90, of 104 Sheldon Blvd. passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday of Holy week, March 18, 2008 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Mrs. Jennie Migliore, 93, of 104 Sheldon Blvd., passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 quietly at home with her daughter, Carol Jean, beside her. Tony was born in San Giuseppeiato, Province of Palermo, Sicily on February 15, 1918, the son of the late Baldassare and Calogera Rizzo Migliore and he attended schools there. In World War II, he served in the Italian military and was stationed in Russia. Tony came to this country in 1950 and settled in Frankfort, where he met and fell in love with Jennie Smizzi. They were joined in marriage on January 27, 1951 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort and recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Mr. Migliore was employed by Union Tools, Frankfort from 1951 until his retirement in 1981. He worked in the Forge room, where he was always remembered as a hero and a legend, for stopping a huge wheel with his bare hands and brut strength to save another man's life. He was a man of great faith, a devout catholic and a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. He was a former member of the Frankfort Civic Club. Those who knew Tony were fortunate because he was a man of great integrity. It was an honor, a privilege and a joy to listen to him speak or sing in his own unique way. Those who knew him understood why he was called a "walking miracle". He was blessed with the name, Migliore, which means: one of the best; of great quality. Tony was an outstandingly handsome and distinguished gentleman whose manner of dress was impeccable. Mrs. Migliore was born in Frankfort, NY on March 26, 1915, the daughter of the late LoDovigo and Christina Costanza Smizzi, and attended schools there. She became a hairdresser and worked at Sperry Rand (Univac) from 1941 until her retirement in 1976. She was a woman of great faith, a devote catholic and communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church. She was a beautiful woman of superb character who did all she could for those she loved. Tony and Jennie have always been right at the heart of what made their family so special and reputable. They showed them how to reach their goals and taught them about being kind, caring and considerate by having those characteristics themselves. Tony and Jennie created a legacy, both as individuals and as a couple for the next generations to learn from and follow. Tony was survived by his beloved wife, Jennie, for two weeks at which time he offered her his hand as he did 57 years ago. They are survived by one loved, honorable, and care giving daughter, Carol Jean of Frankfort; two cherished grandsons, whom Tony and Jennie helped raise from infancy and instilled inspirational values, Anthony and his wife, Melissa Rocco and Gino Rocco; one great grandson, Martino Rocco and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was predeceased by five brothers & four sisters in law, Carl & Rose Migliore, Joseph Migliore, Steve and Bernadetta Migliore, John & Josephine Migliore, Baldassare Benny & Florence Migliore, and one sister and brother in-law, Frank and Josephine Migliore Marsala. Jennie was predeceased by five sisters and four brother in-laws, Florence Smizzi, Sam and Frances Rizzo, Joseph and Rocchina Smizzi, Charles and Anita Cesario; and one brother and sister in-law, Joseph and Ann Russitano. Tony and Jennie's funeral was held Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Lamanna, pastor emeritus. Entombment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours were private. Their funeral arrangements were entrusted to the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort, NY. Their daughter, Carol Jean, would like to thank Fr. John Yanas, Tony's amigo, for his numerous blessings he bestowed on Tony and Jennie and the visits he made throughout the year. She would also like to acknowledge the actions of love and caring by many of their long time friends and family, including Salvatore and Francesca Magro and family, Nino Marsala and family, their niece, Gloria Falzarano, their nephew, Benjamin Migliore & family, John Migliore & family, Russ Russitano, and Jim and Vivian Sgroi. Carol Jean would like to extend her sincere appreciation to the Village of Frankfort Police Department, the Village of Frankfort Ambulance Corp., the doctors and nurses of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center's Emergency Room, 4th Floor Special Care Unit, 3rd Floor Pediatrics, 3rd Floor Section A and Hospice for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her parents during their illnesses and passing. A special thank you is extended to Dr. Paula Vecchio and staff, Dr. Brian Gaffney and the staff of CNY Cardiologists for their compassionate treatment and care over the years.
