E. Herkimer - Mrs. Mary Lesniak, 97, of 320 Pine Grove Rd passed away Monday, December 3, 2007 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home. She was born in Kozwika, Ukraine on September 29, 1910, the daughter of the late George and Anna Marko Hinotsky. The family came to the Unites States on June 28, 1914 and settled in Philadelphia, Pa. She attended schools in Windber, PA and Amsterdam, OH. Mary was married to John Lesniak on September 3, 1933 in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Mr. Lesniak passed away on March 23, 1963. Mary was employed as the Attendant in Charge of the Ward for Marcy State Hospital from February 15, 1930 until her retirement on May 15, 1970. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and a member of the CSEA, Marcy Retirees, Town of Herkimer Senior Citizens, AARP and the West Canada Grange. Mary is survived by her beloved daughter & son in law, Anna & Joseph Lyga of Herkimer; her daughter in law, Mary Ann Lesniak of Elizabethtown, PA; five grandchildren, John Lesniak and Kristin Lesniak both of PA, Nicole Martin of VA, Mary Jane Lyga & her husband, Jerry Beck of IN and Patricia Ann & her husband, Steve Linhoff of CO; one brother: Philip Hinotsky of Mohawk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one son, Robert Lesniak in 2001, one sister, Theresa Pawlika in 1999 and one brother, John Hinotsky in 1934 Her funeral will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer with the V Rev Ivan Semko, Pastor of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Parastas will be held Thursday at 5:30 at the funeral home with Fr. Semko, officiating. Mary's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home's 2nd floor for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her during her stay and passing.
