Herkimer-Mr. George J. Cooker,85, of Galinsky Apartments passed away Friday, August 31, 2007 in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home.
He was born in Herkimer on April 7, 1922, the son of the late Frank and Victoria Lambert Cooker and he attended Herkimer schools. George served with the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and was Honorably Discharged on January 30, 1946. Following his military service he attended and received his Registered Nurse Degree from Brooklyn State Hospital in September of 1955. He was a self employed Private Duty Nurse in New York City for ten years until relocating to Los Angeles where he continued caring for others until his retirement on January 3, 1986. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the American Legion Post #38 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4915.
George is survived his very close cousins, Anthony & Carolyn Belmonte of Herkimer, Eleanor Catlin of Mohawk, Joseph & Elizabeth Belmonte of Springfield, VA and Mary & Dimas Rodriguez of Herkimer.
His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 am in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Mt Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday morning from 8:30 until the time of the service at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home.
