Herkimer-Mrs Helen E. Provinski, 89, of 307 Pleasant Ave passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.
She was born in New York Mills on October 22, 1917, the daughter of the late Walter and Barbara Pula Szczerba. She attended New York Mills schools and graduated from New York Mills High School. She was married to John K. Provinski on April 14, 1940 in St. Mary's Church, New York Mills. Mr. Provinski passed away on February 19, 2006. Mrs. Provinski was employed as a seamstress for several local dress factories for many years. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was formerly a very active member of the Village of Herkimer Senior Citizens. Helen had a strong faith in God and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her extended family will forever remember her delicious poppy seed cakes. Helen loved to knit and work in her garden around her home.
Helen is survived by two sons & daughters in law, John Paul & Leona Provinski of Unionville, PA and William John & Darlee Provinski of Fairport; her beloved grandchildren, Karen and her husband, James Conlan of Landenberg, PA and Matthew Provinski of Unionville, PA; two great grandchildren, Leia Conlan and Tristan Conlan; one sister in law, Gladys De Luis of Little Falls and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one sister, Stephanie Waskiewicz and two brothers, Frank Szczerba and Stanley Szczerba
Her funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 am in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in St Stanislaus & Casimer Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Friday from 5-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home.
