Herkimer-Mr. Joseph J. Widay, 84, of 314 John Ave passed away peacefully Sunday, August 12, 2007 in his home. He was born in Newport on March 20, 1923, the son of the late John and Anna Krol Widay and he attended schools there. Joe served with US Army during WWII in the China Burma and India Theater and was Honorably Discharged on February 5, 1946. He was married to Josephine Serbaniewicz on May 29, 1948 in St. Joseph's Church, Herkimer. Mr. Widay was a Machinist for Univac, both Ilion and Utica Plants and later for Remington Arms for many years until his retirement in March of 1985. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #4915. He loved to work around the house and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His greatest love was his family. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine Widay; one son & daughter in law, Joseph & Elaine Widay of Rochester; two daughters, Patricia Widay of Ilion and Mary Ann De Carr of Cohoes; two grandchildren, Jessica & her husband, Brent Boscarino of Syracuse and Kyle Widay & his fiancée, Jennifer Murphy of Washington, DC; three sisters & one brother in law, Josephine & Stanley Bogdan of Marcy, Stella Politylo of Ilion and Jane Sabik of Utica; two brothers & sisters in law, Frank & Jane Widay of Yorkville and Ted & Charlotte Widay of Herkimer; his in laws, Betty Widay of Herkimer, Victoria & James Shearer of Newburgh, Joseph & Pearl Serbaniewicz of Utica, Leo & Lorraine Sczerbaniewicz of Whitesboro, Edward & Betsy Serban of Hohokus, NJ, Raymond Sczerbaniewicz of Herkimer, Irene & Ronald Szatko of Ilion and Stella Sczerbaniewicz of Herkimer and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew Widay and Michael Widay and one sister, Bernice Pawloski. His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:15 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 am in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors. Calling Hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. Members of the VFW will meet Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home for services. Contributions in Joseph's memory may be made to Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church or Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
