Mr. Peter J. Hubiak Herkimer - Mr. Peter Hubiak, age 96, formerly of 334 S. Washington St entered peacefully into eternal rest Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in Valley Health Services where he resided for the past year and a half. He was born in Brooklyn on July 1, 1910, the eldest son of the late Theodore Frank and Mary Hubiak. He grew up in Danbury, Ct and Remsen, NY and lived the rest of his life in Herkimer. He was educated in the Remsen and Herkimer School System. Peter was married to B. Freda Lukaszewicz for 64 years, she predeceased him in death on May 21, 2000. Mr. Hubiak retired as a Foreman for Herkimer County Highway Department in 1976. Pete was honored in 2004 for 60 years' of service as a volunteer and call fireman in the Herkimer Fire Department. During his tenure he served as one of its presidents. He was active in the Herkimer-Oneida-Madison County Volunteer Firemen Association, Excelsior Hook and Ladder Co #3, the Central NY Firemen's Association and the Firemen's Association of the State of NY. Pete proudly served under eight chiefs in the Herkimer Department. He was an active member of the East Herkimer Fish & Game Club, the Polish Community Home and a member of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church. Pete was a man of wide ranging interests. As a young man, he built and drove race cars throughout New York State; he enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling and was an avid gardener. He will be remembered for his droll humor, humility, integrity, gentle nature and love for his family and friends. Peter is survived by one son & daughter-in-law, Richard John & Nancy Hubiak of Baton Rouge, LA; one daughter & son-in-law, Barbara & Arthur E. Bahr of Longboat Key, Fl; his grandchildren, Kevin & his wife, Kimberly Bahr of Atlanta, GA, Kristin Bahr & her husband, William Smith of Charlotte, NC, Theresa M. Hubiak of Orlando, Fl; four great grandchildren, William Harrison and Emilie Smith, Kevin Jr. and Michael Bahr; one sister, Ann Hubiak of Herkimer; two brothers, Michael Hubiak of PA, and Samuel Hubiak of Herkimer; his sister-in-law, Olga Hubiak of Herkimer and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, John Hubiak. His funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 9:00 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Herkimer Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Peter was at one time employed by HM Quackenbush as a Shipping and Packing Foreman from 1927 - 1944 and Standard Furninture from 1945 - 1949. In 1949 he assisted in the building of the screen at the Valley View Drive Inn. Later the Duofold from 1953 - 1954, Municipal Commission of Herkimer from 1951 - 1956 and from 1969 - 1970 for the Village of Herkimer Street Department. In 1977 with Frank Ferrucci Blacktop, in 1978 with Ernest Durse Blacktop, in 1979 with Ocuto Blacktop and from 1981 - 1986 Ed View Blacktop.
