Mr. Joseph "Tex" Burrell
Frankfort - Joseph "Tex" Burrell, 89, of 605 Second Ave Ext., passed away, Wednesday, November 1, 2006 in Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, New Hartford.
Tex was born on October 16, 1917 in Little Falls, the son of the late John and Marie Cristiano Burrell. He was a graduate of Herkimer High School and Utica Business School. On June 9, 1945, he married Veta Palumbo in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. Mrs. Burrell passed away on November 7, 2003.
Mr. Burrell was employed as a supervisor for the former Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome. Following his retirement, Tex worked for Assemblyman Peter Dolcuchitz of the 113th Assembly District for many years and also was a Town of Frankfort Councilman.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort. Tex was a member of the Knight of Columbus, Council # 518, Addolorata Society of Frankfort, Ilion Moose Lodge #1010, St. Anthony's Crusaders of Herkimer, Young at Heart Senior Citizens, Frankfort and past president of Kiwanis Club. In his younger years, he was an avid baseball and softball player, playing in many leagues throughout the Mohawk Valley and Utica. Tex was also an avid golfer and bowler especially in the past few years.
Tex is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dr. Vincent Bonvino of Herkimer; his granddaughters, Dr. Alysia Bonvino of Syracuse and Michelle B. and Greg Stanley of Baldwinsville; his great grandson, Collin Stanley; his in-laws, Charles & Josephine Palumbo, Anthony & Marie Palumbo and Florence & Sandy Bono, all of Frankfort. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Lee Damiano, Rose Foti, Ann Burrell, Anthony Burrell and Frank Burrell.
His funeral will be held at 9:30AM, Saturday, November 4, 2006 from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:00AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, Frankfort, where a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. John Yanas, Pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling Hours will be Friday from 4-8pm at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
