Obituary of Donald W. Long

Whitesboro - Mr. Donald W. Long, 87, of 5001 Clinton Rd. formerly of Eastern Ave., Herkimer, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born in Utica on October 16, 1928, the son of the late Kenneth and Rose Caliguire Long. He attended Utica schools and graduated from Proctor High School with the class of 1946. Don served with the US Army during the Korean War and was Honorably Discharged on May 26, 1952 with the rank of Sergeant 1/C. He went on to graduate from HCCC in 1985, Utica College and Mohawk Valley Technical Institute. He was married to Roseanne Wells on December 5, 1952 in St. Patrick's Church, Utica, NY. Roseanne passed away on October 18, 2008. Donald was a Biomed Tech for St. Luke's Memorial Hospital until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the NRA, American Legion Post #1376, New Hartford and was of the Catholic faith.
Don is survived by six sons, David and his wife, Sally Long of Fulton, Kenneth Long and his wife, Nancy of Ilion, Douglas Long and his wife , Kristen of Altamonte Springs, FL, Joseph Long and his wife, Francine of New Hartford, Thomas Long and his wife, Mary of Fairport and Timothy Long and his friend, Laura of Whitesboro; one daughter, Donna and her husband, David Schlosser of Henrietta, NY; eleven grandchildren, David Long, Erica and her husband, Grant Epling, Andrea Long, Stephanie Long, Kaela Long, Kelly Long, Samantha Long, Matthew Long, Alexandra Long, William Schlosser and Nathaniel Schlosser; one great granddaughter, Emma Long; one great grandson, Ethan Epling; one sister, Rosemary and her husband, Joseph Latella of Utica; two brothers, Robert Long of Stittville and Richard Long of Ilion and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Long.
His funeral will be held Sunday evening at 7:00 pm in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Oneida St., Utica, on Monday morning at 11:00. Calling hours will be Sunday evening from 4-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.
