Ms. Caroline Sokal
Herkimer - Ms. Caroline Sokal, 94, formerly of Protection Ave and Harter St. passed away Thursday, April 20, 2006 in St. Luke´s Home.
She was born in Poland, Europe on August 10, 1911, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Puzio Sokal. The family came to the United States when Caroline was a child and settled in New Jersey. Caroline was a Seamstress for Duofold, Inc., Mohawk for many years until her retirement in 1974. She was a Communicant of Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church and a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.
Caroline is survived by one brother & sister in law, John & Frances Sokal of Schenectady; her special friends, Nida Babich and David Hunt and several cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three sisters, Stella Furgal Baskinger, Josephine Wilk, and Helen Sokal and three brothers, Stanley Sokal, Andrew Sokal and Anthony Sokal.
Her funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 PM in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church, S. Main St. Herkimer where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato, pastor. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer.
Caroline´s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jack Devaro, Nurse Caroline Walczak, Jackie Entwistle, Karen Caruso, Diane Yaddow, Susan Kennedy, Angie Papa and Claudette Edwards and all the nurses and staff of St Luke´s Home, for the wonderful care and kindness shown to her during her stay and passing. In lieu of floral offerings, donations in Caroline´s memory may be made to the Faxton-St. Luke´s Healthcare Foundation, PO Box 479, Utica, NY 13599-3109. Envelopes will be available at the church on Monday afternoon.
