Please share a memory of Roma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
East Herkimer - Roma S. Viel, 62, passed into eternity to be with the Lord on May 13, 2016, surrounded by her family at home.
Born Roma Senyszyn, on April 24, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Yaroslav "Jerry" Senyszyn and Maria Senyszyn. A 1972 graduate of Herkimer High School, Roma was active in theater productions and an energetic Magician cheerleader. She furthered her education at Herkimer College and in Rochester, NY.
On September 24, 1977, Roma married Carl F. Viel at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. On the day of their union, Carl carried Roma across the threshold of their home, and they lived there for their entire thirty-seven years of marriage. She worked in the Herkimer School District for nineteen years and loved every minute of it.
Roma always had a cheerful disposition and embraced life with open arms. She never missed a family event and always made delicious meals for all to enjoy. She loved attending any function related to her children or students. She was greatly cherished by all who met her.
She is survived by her husband Carl Viel, daughters Aileen Viel and Andrea Curley, son-in-law Nicholas Curley, mother Maria Senyszyn, and older brother Ihor Senyszyn. Additionally, Roma leaves behind many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and friends.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM in First Baptist Church of Little Falls, 555 Albany St, Little Falls with Pastor Ben Wilkerson, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer.
Donations can be made in Roma's memory to the Hope Lodge at 7 Oak St, Worcester, MA 01609. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Bassett Health Care for their exceptional treatment during Roma's battle with ovarian cancer. She lived life to the fullest, inspiring others with her positive outlook and can-do spirit.
