Mr. Chester Zawalski
Houston, TX - Herkimer - Mr. Chester Edmund Zawalski, 89, of 15707 Mill Point Dr Houston, TX formerly of Charles St. Herkimer passed away Good Friday, April 14, 2006 in Clearlake Regional Medical Center, Houston, TX.
He was born in Herkimer on July 20, 1916, the son of the late Walter and Teofila Salski Zawalski and he attended Herkimer Schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the Class of 1934. Chester served with the US Army during World War II as a Sergeant in the Pacific Theater under General McArthur's invasion forces. He was married to Eleanor Marie Marcinkiewicz on February 1, 1947 in St. Joseph´s Church, Herkimer. Eleanor passed away on June 17, 1976. He was later married to Gerry Mc Gee on August 6, 1982 in St. Joseph's Church, Shreveport, LA. Gerry passed away on May 2, 2000. Mr. Zawalski was employed as a Skilled Machine Operator for Remington Arms until his retirement in 1979 after 38 years of dedicated service. He was a Communicant of Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church and a former Communicant of St. Joseph´s Church and he was very active in it´s Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439 and the 517th Field Artillery Battalion Association.
Chester is survived by one son & daughter in law, Robert & Mary Kelly Zawalski of Houston, TX; one daughter & son in law, Susan Elizabeth & Carl Gogol of Manlius; three grandchildren, Mary Jo Zawalski, Benjamin & his wife, Angela Gogol and Jennifer Gogol; one great grandson, Dillon Gogol; one sister, Violet Zawalski of CA, three brothers, Karl Zawalski of Whitesboro, Edward Zawalski of Oriskany and Theodore Zawalski of Ilion and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Mitchell Zawalski, four sisters, Jane Zawalski, Stella Krawczyk, Bertha Orlowski and Mary Kapalka.
His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 10:00 in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday afternoon 4-7 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home.
