Frankfort - Mrs. Marie La Monica, 102, formerly of Fourth Ave. Ext. passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in Masonic Home with her grandchildren by her side.
Marie, the daughter of the late Girolamo and Vincenzia "Jennie" Micciche Licari was born in San Giuseppe Jato, Province of Palermo, Sicily on January 1, 1914. The Licari family came to the United States when she was an infant and later attended Frankfort schools. She was married to Paul La Monica on April 18, 1936 in St. Mary's Church. Paul passed away on September 11, 1986. Marie was employed by Remington Rand, and later as a Sample Maker for Derby Sportswear for many years until her retirement in 1979. She was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Young at Heart Senior Citizens, Addolorata Society, American Legion Post #845 Ladies Aux., her sewing club and the St. Francis Di Paolo Society Aux. Marie was a devout Catholic and was very active in the church, preparing the church linen or cleaning the church. Marie always put her family and friends first; never hesitating to lend a hand to anyone in need. She loved to sew, bake and garden.
Marie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Dianne La Monica of Canandaigua and Jerome and Dorothy La Monica of Frankfort; seven grandchildren, Mary Beth and her husband, Rick Salamone, Steve and his wife, Joanne La Monica, Jennifer and her husband, Jeff Setter, Michael and his wife, Christine La Monica, Lisa and her husband, Tom Della Posta, Christine Maneen and Jerry and his wife, Holly La Monica; fifteen great grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Caroline and Alfred Amendolare of Frankfort; her sisters-in-law, Helen Licari of Herkimer and Michele Conigliaro of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her great granddaughter, Juliana Jean "JJ" La Monica on July 5, 2010; five sisters, Frances Angelicchio, Josephine Rolchigo, Frances Licari, Florence Licari and Rose Rizzo and two brothers, John Licari and Jerry Licari.
Her funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10:15 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 11:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, March 18 from 4 - 8 PM at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens will meet Friday afternoon at 4:15 at the funeral home for services.
Marie was a lifelong learner who stressed the importance of education to her family. For this she was recognized by the Frankfort-Schuyler School Board by receiving an honorary High School Diploma. By family request, donations may be made to the "Paul and Marie La Monica Scholarship Fund" for Frankfort-Schuyler High School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Marie's family would like to thank her 4th Ave Ext. neighbors, Marie Asnoe and Mamie and Tom Della Posta for always being there for her. They would also like to thank the nurses and staff of the Masonic Home's Brooklyn Household for the wonderful care and kindness they showed her during her stay and passing.
