I just learned of Mr.McMurray's passing. He was my first mentor towards my career in music. As most music teachers he put up with a lot of shenanigans in the classroom but his teaching to me was invaluable.I went on after graduation in 1965 to study music at Boston Conservatory of Music and for many years have been the music director, organist and soloist in my parish and teach piano and voice privately.I will always be grateful to him for guidance.
Sincerely,

My condolences to Steve and family.
Mr McMurray's influence on us, his students continued long after we left FSCS - and will continue to do so long after his passing. He so willingly shared his gift, his love of music, with all who were fortunate to be included in his circle. And that circle has widened to generations he never met, but whose parents and grandparents passed on his gift.
Godspeed Mr. McMurray as you dash off to your first choir practice with a whole new group of enthusiasts who have been awaiting your arrival. Lucky them!

As a teacher and then as a fellow member of the Frankfort-Schuyler faculty, Mr. McMurray was always a gem. When I began my career teaching at Reese Road, I will always remember him coming to my room to see what new bulletin boards my class and I created. He was so excited and complimentary. Later, for our Veterans Day programs, Mac always belted out a rendition of "God Bless America" with great respect and fervor. My favorite to hear him sing was "When Irish Eyes are Smiling." We will all smile when we remember you, Mac!

To the family of LaVergne McMurray,
So many words to describe the teacher and the man that Mr. McMurray was it is next to impossible to choose. Devoted is certainly one, but so are loving, giving, tireless, inspirational and kind. I believe he was one of the few true gentlemen I have had the pleasure and the privilege to know. His smile and the twinkle in his eye were infectious. His dedication to his family, his friends, his students and the many organizations he was involved with was exceptional. I do not believe he ever forgot the name of any student who had the pleasure of being in his class and I know that we will never forget him. In your grief there has to be so much pride as well in the fact that you got to call him Dad or Bumpa. I know that his love and pride knew no bounds where his family was concerned. R.I.P gentle man. You will be missed.

My favorite memories of Mr. McMurray were when he had a small group of us working on a song (usually from the Sound of Music). More often than not we must have tested his patience trying to blend the melodies and harmonies he assigned us just right, but when we finally got it - the look on his face was a mixture of peace, joy, bliss, accomplishment...like you just gave him the most beautiful gift! I can imagine his joy now listening to heavenly choirs (no sour notes there like teenage chorus students)! Rest in Peace Mr. McMurray, the gifts you shared with us will not be forgotten...

God Bless Mr. McMurray! He brought so many wonderful memories to us children at Reese Road school. For me [1975-83]. One of my favorites was the way he would play McNamara's Band on request when he got into his piano groove. He'd bang away on the keys up in front of the class as we all sat enthralled. He was always so patient and quick to forgive when certain children got on his nerves. Thank you for everything LaVergne! You will be sorely missed.

We had many hours of fun and laughter together, and I'll miss his constant smile,no matter where I'd see him. To all the McMurray family,
The loss of your Dad leaves an incredible aching emptiness in my life and my
families life. You have all been not just friends, but family to our family. Today, we
grieve his loss as a loss of a family member.
I have known him all my life. He truly is the best music teacher I have ever
had. I have been inspired by his love and passion for music , and my using that
passion in my life has made all the difference.
He truly is a civic minded cornerstone to our community. For someone
not born in Frankfort, he certainly adopted and fully loved our community, reaching
out and helping anywhere he can to countless numbers of lives.
Frankfort will never be the same. West Main street will never be the same.
My life will never be the same.
He is now home in heaven with Jane for St. Patrick's day! Praise the Lord
as his love and music shines beautifully in the eternal kingdom of our God!

Mr. McMurray instilled in me a love of music that has given me great joy over the years. With the music theory he taught I went on to play piano for my own enjoyment, inspiring our only daughter to take lessons and become quite the accomplished pianist. I still play to work through difficult emotions and celebrate joy. Music is my worship and my peace. Thank you Mr. McMurray for this wonderful gift. I am forever grateful, and still LOVE and sing along with the old show tunes you taught us! I am looking forward to meeting you again when it is my turn to move on to the next great adventure.
