Frankfort - Mr. William A. Ferguson, 78, of Higby Rd. passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 19, 2014 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. He was born in Utica on July 12, 1936, the son of the late James and Frances Coram Ferguson and he attended Proctor High School, graduating with the class of 1953. He later attended and graduated from Morrisville State College in 1955. For most of his adult life, Bill was a dairy farmer running the Coop Hill Dairy on Higby Rd. in Frankfort. His hobbies included singing and playing the organ in church. He also spent many hours researching the Ferguson genealogy. Bill was very proud of his Scottish heritage. He traveled to Scotland, purchased a kilt of the Ferguson plaid, which he wore on several occasions throughout his life and will be wearing it when he is put to rest. He would spend many hours gathering information and pictures of the history of the Mohawk Valley that he submitted to the Herkimer County Historical Society. Bill was a board member of the Ferguson Cemetery Association and for many years was devoted to maintaining and keeping the cemetery in West Frankfort beautiful. He was a communicant of the Asbury Methodist Church in Utica. Bill is survived by one brother, James D. Ferguson IV of Frankfort; four sisters and one brother in law, Marjorie Covey, Frances Burdick and Doris Foster, all of Frankfort and Beverly and Paul Gado of Brentwood, TN. "Uncle Bill" is also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also leaves a "special niece and friend," Kim Ferguson, who was always there for Bill when he needed her. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by three brothers in law, Allen Covey, Donald Burdick, Eldon Foster and one sister in law, Charlotte Ferguson. His funeral will be held Friday morning at 10:00 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort where a funeral service will be celebrated by the Rev. Susan Jones. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to the Ferguson Cemetery Association of West Frankfort. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
