Obituary of James J. Treen
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Corona, CA - Frankfort - James John "JJ" - "Jimmy" Treen, 55, passed away suddenly, April 24, 2014 in Corona, California. Born in Ilion, NY on March 7, 1959, James was the son of the late James G. and Catherine J. (Latella) Treen. He was raised in Frankfort and was a member of St. Mary's Church. He was a graduate of Frankfort Schuyler Central School where he was the star Quarterback and Captain for the 1977 CVC Champs - The Maroon Knights.
In 1980, he moved to Southern California where he had lived until present. He was employed by companies Ceradyne and Cercom, holding positions in upper management and specialized in military ballistic armor protection. In 1991, he started his own Landscaping Construction Company "Treenscape" and remained in the Construction Business until present day. He was an avid member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Corona, as well as the Corona Serenity Club, where he influenced many lives for over 30 years. The Corona Serenity Club and their members were truly an extension of his family.
Jimmy always enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved and bragged about his mother Kate's cooking and her Italian meatballs and pasta. He embraced the time spent with his Father James, Brother Mark, Uncles Fred and Bob and all his cousins, hunting, snowmobiling, telling stories and going to the stock car races at Fonda Speedway, and eventually racing himself at Utica Rome Speedway. When it came down to football, this was one of Jimmy's greatest passions. Jimmy was football and the biggest New York Jets fan you will ever meet.
He was the most generous person, unselfishly always giving of himself to everyone and anyone in need. He saw joy in taking care of people and making people feel good about themselves. When he walked in a room, he captivated an audience. People were instantly drawn to his entertaining spirit. His greatest joy was being a father to his beautiful daughter Rachael Renee. They enjoyed concerts, watching tv shows, going to the movies and shopping together. He loved singing to her, especially Bob Dylan songs. They always had wonderful talks when he would drive and pick her up from school, that was Rachael's precious time with her dad.
James is survived by his daughter Rachael Treen, Sisters Catherine (Treen) Altieri, Wendy (Treen) Lambert, Cindy (Treen) and Dominick Alsheimer, Brother Mark Treen, brother-in-law Leo Griffin, nieces and nephews, Marie (Hagen) Schmidt and husband Jeremiah, Daryl and Suelene Hagen, Michelle (Papa) Bianchi and her husband Dominick, Janaysa and James Lambert, Carly Griffin, Catherine Alsheimer, Mark J. and Jesse Treen, great nephews Trey and Tanner Bianchi, Bryce (Godchild) and Jack Hagen, Blake Schmidt and great niece Logan Schmidt. James was also predeceased by his brother James Joseph Treen in 1953 and his sister Tammy (Treen) Griffin in 2003.
Nephew Daryl Hagen had a special bond with his Uncle Jimmy. He influenced Daryl as an uncle, Godfather, and as a best friend. Daryl counted on Jimmy throughout his childhood and eventually moved to California attending college and living together for several years in the 1990s. Special people in Jimmy's life are ex-wife and mother of their daughter, Independence, mother-in-law, Ruth Vanlierop, first wife Roberta Hughes of Frankfort, NY, and many friends that he emotionally affected in both Frankfort and Southern California. His brother Mark was able to visit Jimmy last month in California and will forever cherish their time together.
