Frankfort - Mr. John Matthew Murphy, 70, of 168 S. Litchfield St. passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 in Little Falls Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Mahopac, NY on June 20, 1943, the son of the late John Francis and Mary Eileen Cline Murphy and he attended Frankfort schools, graduating with the class of 1961. He went on to attend Ithaca College where he was a French Horn major, graduating with his Bachelor's Degree in 1965. He went on to attend N. Adams State College, graduating with his Master's Degree in Administration in 1977. John was the Parking Supervisor for Albany Medical Center until his retirement in July of 2008. Two accomplishments of which he was most proud were achieving Eagle Scout in 1960 and being an accomplished musician, making his Carnegie Hall debut in 1966. During his career, John performed in various bands, opera troupes and orchestras. He taught in several schools in New York State and in later years managed Environmental Science programs in several healthcare and corporate facilities in the Albany area where he spent most of his adult life. He retired in 2008 due to poor health and returned to his sister's house in Frankfort. He was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion and a member of the Kappa Gamma Psi Fraternity. John is survived by one son and daughter in law, Michael Sean Murphy and his wife Traci of Glastonbury, CT; one daughter, Shannon Thompson of Albany; his daughter in law, Jennifer Murphy-Duncan and her husband, Michael Duncan of Theresa, NY; one sister, Joan Carol Murphy of Frankfort; one brother, James Fay Murphy and his wife, Carol of Middleville; ten grandchildren, Anastasia and her husband, Matthew Purficato, Leia, Ciara, Jenna, Grady, Casey, Max, Brittany, Joshua and Shea one great-granddaughter, Hannalee; two nephews, James L and Patrick; one niece, Michele Alsheimer; and one great nephew and two great nieces, Aidan, Mica and Jordan. He was predeceased by his oldest son, John F. Murphy on July 5, 2012. His funeral will be held at 9:15 AM from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:00 AM in Church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 4-7 PM at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral home, Inc. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to the Frankfort Fire Dept. Memorial Park Fund, 158 Litchfield St, Frankfort, NY 13340. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Humor was very important to John. He loved to tell the stories. Even in death he wanted the last laugh by requesting his tombstone to read: "Here lies John Murphy, in the hole again."
