Please share a memory of Olga to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Herkimer - Olga Hubiak, 97, of Kast Bridge, town of Herkimer, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, November 15, 2013. She was born on May 3, 1916, in Clifton, New Jersey, daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Hoch) Gallik. The family moved to Osborne Hill near Kast Bridge in 1920. Her husband of nearly 58 years, John Hubiak, died in 2002. Mrs. Hubiak graduated from Oneonta Normal School (now SUNY Oneonta). She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse and taught many years at West Canada Valley Central School. She treasured her family, her students and friends, and the lovely house and gardens she designed. She delighted in teaching and anyone who spent time with her was touched by her gentleness and wisdom. One of her pleasures was passing on plants to others, and her gardens were an inspiration to many. Her sisters Julia Bell O'Connell and Anne Thwaits and her brothers Michael and Dimitri (Pete) Gallik predeceased her. She is survived by her brothers, William Gallik and his wife Betty and Daniel Gallik and his wife Lorna Totman; nieces Leslie Thwaits, Juliana Kapusta, Carol Karlson, and Donna Dillman and nephews Alan and Gary Thwaits and Wayne Gallik and their families; and her friends Sharon and Don Plunkett. A Parastas Service will be held Saturday morning at 11 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, with the V.Rev. John Udics, officiating. Calling hours will be Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of services. A celebration of Olga's life and interment will take place in the summer at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. Future service details will be available on the funeral home website. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Olga's online memorial page by going to www.iocovozzifuneralhomes.com.
