Obituary of Patrick Peter Tamburro
Woodgate - Patrick Peter Tamburro, of Woodgate, NY, and Sarasota, FL, passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 30, 2023, after a most courageous battle with cancer. The son of the late Oscar and Angie Licari Tamburro, he was born in Frankfort, NY, on July 6, 1946.
Pete married his loving wife Mary Anne on July 17, 1971, and they shared 52 wonderful years. In February of 1978 their lives were blessed with their amazing son, Nicholas. In 2009, the family welcomed a wonderful daughter-in-law, Elizabeth, and were later blessed with two precious granddaughters, Ellery and Avery, who were the love and joy of Peter’s life.
A graduate of Frankfort Schuyler High School, he went on to receive both a BS and an MA in Education along with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration at Cortland State. He then was awarded an Ed.D. from Syracuse University in 1987.
He began his teaching career at Jamesville DeWitt Middle School where he was to become the Assistant Principal. In 1980, he was transitioned to Principal of Moses DeWitt Elementary School. Upon receipt of his Doctorate, he was hired by the Oneida City Schools as Assistant Superintendent in 1987. He advanced to the Superintendency, a job he loved and retired from in 2004.
Throughout his life and career he made it clear that children were his priority. His lifelong friendships gave him great joy. He served and participated in numerous community organizations including the United Way, Rotary, BSA and created the Oneida City School District Foundation.
Peter is survived by many family members and friends, including his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Roxanne Willoughby; sister-in-law, Loretta Borden; nieces and nephews, Zachary, Annie, Alexis and Austin and his uncle, Sam Licari. He is survived by Licari and Tamburro cousins, along with the Mathew’s crew, whom he came to know and love, and his adopted sister, Linda A. He will be remembered by many `Kappa’ brothers, Frankfort buddies, the J.D. crew, the White Lake family, the `Somersettlers’ of Sarasota, and many other special friends, too numerous to name.
His funeral will be held Monday morning August 14, 2023 at 10:30 in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, S. Frankfort St., Frankfort where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home Inc. 203 Second Ave., Frankfort.
