Obituary of Emmeline Kaye Carpenter

Valdosta, GA - Newport, NY - Emmeline "Emmy" Kaye Carpenter, 59, of Valdosta, GA, formerly of Newport, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012, at Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta, after a long battle with cancer. She was born July 21, 1953 in Ilion, the oldest child of six to Arthur L. and Katherine Papa Loomis. Emmy graduated from Mt. Markham High School with the Class of 1971 and married Daniel Gilbert that same year; they later divorced. In 1984 she married Richard K. Carpenter. They were married for 25 years until they recently divorced. In 1998 and she went on to earn her Associates Degree from Herkimer County Community College. Emmy was last employed as a Teachers' Aide at Herkimer County B.O.C.E.S, retiring due to her illness. Emmy was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She was always eager to learn new things and has been known to carry a dictionary with her "in case of an emergency". She had a great concern for others and always put their needs before hers. In 2010 she had applied to the Peace Corps, which was a lifelong dream of hers, but her illness made that dream impossible. Emmy is survived by her mother, Katherine Loomis of Millers Mills; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Heather and Jesse Boyd of Valdosta, GA, Ivy and Robert Curren of Los Angeles, CA, and Hayley Carpenter of Newport, NY; two grandchildren, Jillian and Seamus Boyd of Valdosta, GA; three brothers and their spouses, Dr. Robert Loomis and Francois of Ottawa, Canada, Alan Loomis and Pam of St. Johnsville and Monte Loomis and Robin of Ilion; two sisters, Angela Massey of Mohawk and Marguerite and husband Michael P. Daum of Richfield Springs; Ivy and Hayley's father (her former husband), Richard K. Carpenter of Bali, Indonesia; and a plethora of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Arthur L. Loomis. Emmy's family would like to thank Dr. Razia, her staff, Dr. Ofori, his staff and everyone at the Langdale Hospice House for all of their care and kindness through such a difficult time. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort, with Rev. Robert Wollaber, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home. Private interment will take place at Mohawk Cemetery.
