John,Jimmer,Sue, Sally and Family
I was very saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. So many wonderful memories come to mind when I think of the old neighborhood and spending so much time at the Wallace's (the only house where we could jump on the beds and not get in trouble) and Mr.Wallace carting all of us in the wagon to games and then for ice cream. Remembering years later when I came back for visits that front door slamming shut and seeing your Dad still rushing down the porch steps just as he did when we young. He was greatly respected and had such a positive impact on me and so many of us who had the opportunity to know your Dad
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for your loss,my thoughts and prayers are with
your family.
May God bless you all during this time and always
Noreen

John, Jim and the Wallace family. I was very fortunate to grow up with Mr. Wallace living across the street from me. One of my fondest memories was watching your Dad walking down Pleasant Ave with two or three six packs of Pepsi that he bought at the Cailoa grocery store almost daily. I always respected Mr. Wallace. He very rarely showed any type of anger and was so happy and easy going. Playing baseball in the park, basketball and Pop Warner, all great memories. Your Dad had a positive impact on many, many people. Even though I have not seen or talked to your Dad for many years, I will miss him, I am sure he is in Heaven with his love ones and some of the old Canal St. gang that has passed away. My sincere condolences. May God Bless you and help you through this difficult time. Jim Riente

Suzanne and family,
Find comfort and peace knowing your dad no longer suffers. You were there for him when he needed you the most and I truly admire you for that. True love for someone is letting go of your own needs for their needs. He will always be in your hearts and you now have the most awesome guardian angel. I wish I had special words to mend your broken hearts. Always hold onto your wonderful memories until you are reunited.

To Nancy, Jim and the Wallace Family: Although I never had the pleasure of meeting your father, it is apparent that he was truly a wonderful person. I know this because his children and grandchildren are wonderful people that he loved and influenced and they now share this with others in their lives. You are in my prayers, may God bless you with peace during this time.

Mr. Wallace was my English teacher in Frankfort in junior high school, very early in his career, and he had an enormous impact upon my life. I was in the school library checking out "Modern Young Romances," when he came up to me and handed me a book of Bret Harte stories, and said, "Try reading this." Thus began for me a lifelong adventure in reading of all kinds, and ultimately my acquiring a beautiful leatherbound set of the stories of Bret Harte. When it came time for me to look at colleges, he was no longer my teacher or guidance counselor, but he always maintained an interest in me. He urged me to apply to Ivy League schools, and to others of high academic standing, which I never would have done on my own. I went to an Ivy League university, and the wonderful path my life has taken is largely due to Mr. Wallace's early influence.
Recently I attended the 50th reunion of my high school class, and I did a survey of my classmates a few months prior to the event. One question concerned what teachers had the greatest influence upon our futures. As you might expect, Mr. Wallace was named repeatedly, just as often for his coaching efforts as for his teaching. The prevailing theme was that he had made students reach higher and work harder, and that they had accomplished things of which they did not know they were capable.
Many years ago, I wrote him a letter and told him what he had meant to me and the influence he had exerted upon my life. In his customary humble way I received a note back which contained one sentence: "The pleasure of knowing you was, and continues to be, mine." He was a rare and wonderful man. I was so sad to hear of Mr. Wallace's passing. He was such an important part of my high school years. Not only was he our guidance counselor, but he was our class adviser. My class was lucky enough to get to know him even better at all of our class events. He was always there for me and I think I spent more time in his office than any classroom at IHS. College choice was very confusing for me and he was such an important part of me choosing Geneseo as my college. It ended up being one of the best decisions I've ever made. He was great listener and our biggest cheerleader. He was at all of our events and I have fond memories of he and Mrs. Wallace dancing beside us at both our prom and our ball. He missed Mrs. Wallace so much and it comforts me to know that they are now joined together in heaven. My sincere sympathy goes out to Mr. Wallace's family. Please know the impact that your father and grandfather had on so many. He was so loved and so respected. I will miss him, and will continue to try to emulate the educator that he was in dealings with my own students.

My favorite memory is his big smile. Every time I came over, which was daily, he had a smile for me. He always seemed truly glad to see me, even if I had just gone home for lunch and come back an hour later. Such a warm, loving soul. Thank you for bringing added love and kindness to my childhood.
