Mr. James W. Wallace, Sr. Utica - Frankfort - Mr. James W. Wallace, Sr., 82, of 41 Arlington Rd. formerly of Pleasant Ave., Frankfort passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 in the home of his daughter and son in law, Suzanne and David Appleton with his family by his side. James was born in Milton, MA on November 25, 1928, the son of the late John Henry and Mary Agnes Slack Wallace, Sr. He attended parochial school in Milton and later attended Milton High School. He served with the US Navy during World War II. Following his Military time, he received his Bachelors Degree from the College of the Holy Cross, his Masters Degree in English from Harvard University and completed his Doctoral work at the University of Rochester. He was married to Anelia Bagdziewicz on July 1, 1950 in Sts. Peter & Paul's Church. Mrs. Wallace passed away on January 31, 1989. Mr. Wallace was a High School teacher for Frankfort-Schuyler High School and was later employed as the Guidance Counselor for Ilion High School until his retirement in 2008 after 56 years of teaching and aiding students. He was a communicant of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion and served as a Coach for Frankfort's Varsity Baseball team. He started Pop Warner in the Mohawk Valley, served as Past Director of the Herkimer County CYO, was a charter member of Frankfort Youth Baseball, served as Past President of Herkimer County Boces and was a member of the Frankfort-Schuyler Central School Board. He received a special award from the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials in March of 1987 for meritorious service for the youth of the Mohawk Valley in the field of athletics. Mr. Wallace loved teaching but his greatest love was his family. James is survived by two sons and daughters in law, John and Maryel Wallace of Ilion and James and Nancy Wallace, Jr. of Mohawk; two daughters and sons in law, Suzanne and David Appleton with whom he resided and Sally Wallace and Brad Moore of Atlanta, GA; one sister and brother in law, Joanne and William Stockhausen of NC; his grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Laura Wallace, Eric Wallace, Elizabeth Wallace, Thomas Appleton, Sarah Appleton, Anelia Moore, Nora Moore and James Moore; two great grandsons, C.J. Wallace and Chase Wallace; his special niece, Monique and her husband, Daniel Marollo and their children, Sammy and Hannah and several cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, 1st Lt. John H. Wallace US Army Air Corps KIA WWII in 1945; three sisters, Mary Wallace, Alice Carrol and Kay Cornetta as well as his mother in law, Sophie Bagdziewicz. His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9:45 AM from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:30 AM in Church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the V.Rev. Anthony Barratt and assisted by Deacon James Bower. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-8 at the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Contributions in James' memory may be made to James and Anelia B. Wallace Scholarship Fund of Ilion High School, 1 Golden Bomber Dr., Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. James' family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Alicia DeTraglia, Michele Misiaszek NP, Terry Smith FNP, the nurses and staff of the 6th floor of St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, Hospice and Fr. Joe Salerno for the wonderful care and compassion shown to him during his illness and passing.
