Margaret: Late - but so sorry to read about Bob's death in OD. Knew him from Frankfort schools and basketball games. Occasionally saw him in New Hartford.I am the same age as Bob was but guess I don't consider myself old. Just so sad for you to be without him now. Ann Bishop Serth

My father, Frank Oriole, has asked that I send his deepest sympathy for the loss of his very dear friend. He has fond memories of Bob and often talked about him. His photo album is full of wonderful pictures of Bob enjoying a round of golf or attending a social function. He is also saddened that he was not able to spend time with Bob these last few years. Our deepest sympathy to Margaret and family.

Mrs. Hughes-
I had the distinct pleasure of working with Bob when I joined the New Hartford School Board in 1980 and until his retirement in 1985. I have so many good memories of those time and our interaction. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time.

I first Bob in the summer of 1978. He was the Assistant Superintendent at New Hartford Central School and I was an applicant for the principalship at the Myles Elementary School. We had lunch together and talked about the school district and the position. From that first meeting, I knew Bob was a man who I would like and respect very much. I was absolutely correct!
I had the honor of working with Bob as one of his principals from 1978 to 1985. He taught me so many things. Most importantly, he taught me about leadership and how to work effectively with people. When Bob retired in 1985, he recommended that I replace him as the Assistant Superintendent. I will never forget the encouragement and support that he gave me.
I still have a hand written note that Bob sent me during my second year at New Hartford. In it, he expressed his great confidence in me. Coming from a man like Bob, this meant more than words can describe. He was my hero and I will miss him very much.

To the family of Bob Hughes: I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I only really knew Bob form having an occasional drink and camaraderie with him and the crew of friends he had at Thurston's but I was always impressed by his humor, wit, intelligence, and kind good nature. I always enjoyed sharing a good joke and discussing current and historical events with Bob. He will be missed very much by everyone who knew him. I know how hard it is to lose a parent, but you will always have the good thoughts and memories of Bob and yes, the sadness that he is no longer with you will remain. But I hope you can find some strength in knowing that you could not be more proud of a person like Bob and that God will certainly open his arms for him. He had the respect of everyone and we would all do well to emulate him. If the world was filled with people like Bob, what a wonderful place it would truly be.

Years ago, I taught under Bob and he was one of the most "real" educator/administrators I have known in almost 40 years of teaching. Equally important was the way he was with my then young son Shawn, who was having trouble dealing with an absent, alcoholic father...Bob took him under his wing and then not only put up his "pictures" but kept them up when Shawn kept checking that he did. Shawn was 7 years old. My son was killed when he was 15 bringing home our Christmas gifts, so I treasure every memory and have often told this story of the impression and difference Bob made in his and my life.
I just arrived in Copenhagen and checked my email and truly offer my condolences to his family...I know that love never dies and you will sense Bob often...believe it!

My first few years in New Hartford were near the end of Bob's tenure as an administrator.
Bob was a gentleman who treated teachers with respect and kindness. I will remember him and his friendly demeanor.

Dear Marge,
Marlene and I were shocked to hear the news of Bob's passing. Although we only knew him a few years, we found him to be one of the nicest gentlemen we've been fortunate to know. It seems like only yesterday you and he left the beach to go home and we said "see you next year". My most cherished personal memory will always be the day he walked in front of Butch on one of the Par 3's because Butch was so playing slow and Bob loved to play fast. Bob, get coffee at the great McDonald's in Heaven, play fast golf forever, and may you walk with God in eternity.
We offer our deepest sympathy and prayers to you Marge, and to your entire family.

I am so saddened by loss of Bob. What a wonderful person God has taken. I truly loved our chats at Thurstons, weather it was a joke or about life. Bob always gave me good advice & I always felt better after conversing with him! Bob said he was going to put me in his book about Frankfort for my quote what I missed most about living in Utica was Frakfort! I truly meant that because of the wonderful people that I met there, especially Bobby my favorite! He was a stand up, respectful guy & someone I truly admire. May God be with his beautiful bride, children, grandchildren & friends. He will be deeply missed.
