Frankfort - Mr. Anthony (Tony) Vito Caruso, 83, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2015 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. He was born in Frankfort on November 24, 1931, the son of the late Andrea Henry and Maria Concetta Caruso. He attended Frankfort Schools and SUNY @ Cortland. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 until his honorable discharge on May 11, 1955 during the Korean Conflict and he obtained the rank of Sergeant. On October 27, 1956, he married Catherine Murray, and together they shared a wonderful life adventure. Tony was employed as a teacher and assistant principal in the Whitesboro Schools from 1958-1967. He ended his career in education as principal of Stillwater Elementary School, working there from 1967-1986. Upon his retirement, he returned to his hometown. Tony gave generously of his time and talents to his family, friends and community. He worked and volunteered with the Frankfort Town government in different capacities. He ran and was elected as Town Supervisor. He served on the Board of Assessment Review for several years. He especially enjoyed working with the youth of Frankfort during the summer months, supervising them with various jobs and listening to their stories as well as sharing his wisdom with them. He served on the parish council of his church, the Frankfort Library Board, and was a member of the Frankfort Kiwanis and the Young at Heart Seniors. For over a decade, he assisted with the organization of the Frankfort Concert Series held at the St. Francis pavilion. He was known to have been a wonderful neighbor, especially during the winter months when he cleaned his neighbor's driveways. He enjoyed building and repairing all types of machinery and gadgets. Tony loved traveling with his wife. He cherished his trips to Italy to visit his family's roots and connect with his paesanos. Out of all of his accomplishments and experiences, he was the most proud of his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife Catherine of Frankfort; two daughters and one son in law, Karen and Mark Schrock of Perrysburg, OH and Patricia Tashjian of Clifton Park; five grandchildren, Kelsey (Schrock) and her husband Josh Middleton, Drew Schrock, Zach Schrock, Carly Tashjian and Ben Tashjian; his in laws, Irene Sbiroli, Peter and Zos Murray and many dedicated and caring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters and brothers in law, Anne and James Richards and Frances and Donald Wentworth; one brother and sister in law, Joseph and Mary Caruso and her brother in law, Philip Sbiroli. His funeral will be held Thursday, October 1, 2015 at 9:45 AM in the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Ave. Frankfort, and at 10:30 AM in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, S. Frankfort St. Frankfort. Those who wish may call on Wednesday, September 30th from 4-7 PM. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Members of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday at 5:00 at the funeral home for services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony's memory may be made to the Frankfort Free Library, 123 S. Frankfort St. Frankfort, NY 13340. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
