Obituary of Julia A. Firlet

Mrs. Julia A. Firlet, 68, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in Albany Medical Center. She was born in Little Falls on May 21, 1941, the daughter of the late Peter and Mary Hardish Mezik. She attended Herkimer schools and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1959. She was married to Joseph W. Firlet on June 10, 1967 in St. Stanislaus Church. Mr. Firlet passed away on December 19, 2003. Mrs. Firlet was at one time employed by Univac, Scheidelman's, GE and lastly as a Check Writer for Metropolitan Life Insurance, Utica for many years until her retirement in 1999. She was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church and its St Anne's Society, St. Stanislaus Christian Women's Group, American Legion Post 229 Aux., Walter Skiba Post #20 Aux and the Senior Center. Julie loved to play pinnacle and pitch especially in tournaments and was a volunteer at Faxton-St Luke's Memorial Hospital. Julia is survived by her two beloved sons and daughters in law, Joseph & Kathy Firlet of Clifton Park and John & Cassandra Firlet of Cary, NC, one sister and best friend, Mary Jane & her husband, Mitch Chlus of Little Falls her cherished grandchildren, Lauren, Robert, Peter, Avery and Eric; her aunts, Anne Bayzon of Herkimer, Barbara Mezik of West Winfield and Anne Erickson of Roseville, CA.; her nieces and nephews, David and Debie Chlus & family, Daniel and Norma Chlus & family, Joan & Henry Heinlein, Carol and James Norton, Joseph & Sylvia Majka, Janice Sparks and Michael Ryan, several cousins and very close friends. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:15 am from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 10:00 am in S.S. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church with the Archpriest James M. Jadick, officiating. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-8 at the V.J.Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Members of the Walter Skiba Post #20 Aux will meet Friday at 7:00 at the funeral home for services. Parastas will be Friday at 7:30 with Father Jadick, officiating. Contributions in Julia's memory may be made to S.S. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church Memorial Fund, Main St., E. Herkimer, NY 13350. Julia's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to her many friends for their love, support and prayers and a special expression to Father James Jadick for his spiritual guidance to her during her illness and passing.
