Ilion - Mrs. Marie S. Emden, 91, formerly of Wilson St. Ilion passed away peacefully Thursday, March 5, 2009 in Masonic Home. She was born in Ilion on June 20, 1917, the daughter of the late John and Rose Millbower Stevener. She attended Ilion schools and graduated from Ilion High School with the class of 1935. She was married to Fred Emden on December 31, 1942 in Annunciation Church, Ilion. Mr. Emden passed away on March 17, 1990. Marie was at one time employed by Remington Rand, Ilion and later was the owner and operator of the Smart Shop, Ilion. Following her retirement she enjoyed helping her daughter Dawn in the operation of Hilltop Greenhouse, Frankfort for many years. She was a communicant of Church of the Annunciation. Marie was known for being a devout catholic and living her faith in her acts. She loved to help at church and would visit her neighbors, the sick at the hospital and nursing homes. Her hobbies which were more acts of love were baking, "fritter maker," reading, her garden and prayer. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Marie is survived by her devoted daughter & son in law, Dawn & Jon George Hosney of Frankfort; her grandchildren, Jon Scott & his wife, Amy Hosney and Maria & her husband, Jeff Engelbrecht; four great grandchildren, Jarrett Engelbrecht, Katelyn Engelbrecht, Jon Paul Hosney and Scott Haejoon Hosney; her special niece, Beverlyan Tutty and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, John Stevener and three sisters, Anna Joly, Bertha Forsythe and Veronica Tutty. Her funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1:15 pm from the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave. Frankfort and at 2:00 pm in Church of the Annunciation where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the V.Rev. Anthony Barratt assisted by Deacon James Bower. Spring interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 12-1 at the V. J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. Marie's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Masonic Care Community's Manhattan Neighborhood and especially Dr "O" for the wonderful care and compassion shown to her during her stay and passing. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie's memory may be made to Church of the Annunciation, 109 West St. Ilion, NY 13357. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
