Obituary of Edward A. Kroll
Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edward A. Kroll, formerly of 499 Cullen Road, Richfield Springs passed away June 28, 2015 at St. Luke's Home, New Hartford.
Ed was born August 1, 1927 at the family homestead in Cullen, the son of the late Sophie (Hugick) and Edmund Kroll. He was raised on the family farm with his brother and three sisters and educated at the one room school house in Cullen and the Richfield Springs Central School. On September 26, 1953, he was united in marriage with Elaine Otrupcak in Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Little Falls.
Mr. Kroll worked his entire life as a dairy farmer along with his mother and his wife as partners until he retired in 1990. He was fortunate to have had so much help on the farm through the years from his brother, sisters, cousins, nephews and nephew's friends; it was truly a "family" farm.
Upon his retirement at the age of 63 Ed packed a lunch for the first time in his life and went to work for his longtime friend Bill Cantwell and Bill's son and daughter in law Tim and Sue Cantwell. Relieved to no longer have to milk cows twice a day, 365 days a year he still enjoyed doing crop work for the Cantwells. During his retirement he also enjoyed working in his garden, hunting with his cousins and son in law as well as fishing with his son, sons in laws and his grandchildren. He was an avid deer hunter and outdoors man all his life.
A lifelong resident of the Richfield Springs area, he missed the community when he and Elaine moved to Herkimer in November 2014. To all who knew him he was a big tease, just ask any of his 45 nieces and nephews. A hard working family man, someone who could always be counted on, he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Elaine; his three children, Margaret Kroll and Alan Lincourt of Richfield Springs, Nora Dusseault and her husband, Paul of Ilion, Edward Kroll and his wife, Donna of Solvay; five grandchildren, Ryan and Andrew Dusseault, Stephanie, Jennifer and Edward Kroll; his sister, Ann Watkins of Ilion; as well as so many very dear cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased in death by his brother, Paul Kroll, and by two sisters, Martha Radzak and Wanda Watkins.
His funeral will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer with Sister Mary Jo Tallman, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday morning from 10:00 until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations in his memory to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413 or the American Cancer Society, 100 Lomond Court, Utica, NY 13502-5949. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The Kroll family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of St. Luke's Home and Hospice for their wonderful care give to Ed during his residence and passing at St. Luke's Home.
