Mrs. Reina was the finest math teacher I've ever had. After graduating from FSCS in 1985, I attended the US Naval Academy and the University of Southern California - but no subsequent instructors were quite as effective as she was.
My sincere condolences to Mrs. Reina's family. You should know that she positively effected many thousands of lives.

Joe and family,
After losing my mom on Sunday, I understand. You took such good care of her in her final years.
My brother and Sister-in-law knew your mom and dad as best friends.
She was a vibrant, devoted teacher who once tutored me in math.
She will not be forgotten.

Dear Joyce, Joey & Sally,
We just want to tell you how sorry we are to hear the news about your mom. She was a great teacher and inspiration to all of us. She pushed us to believe that we could master any level of math and stood behind us when the chips were down. I remember having surgery my senior year and how she spent extra time tutoring me so I could catch up, giving me that A on the Trig regents. I'll also never forget going up to "the river" with both our grandparents for their yearly vacation. It was always so much fun. I truly believe that our grandparents and parents are all together enjoying the good times once again. Take care and God Bless!

I am very impressed at Mrs. Reina's, which is how I will always remember her, my teacher, many and varied accomplishments.
I remember very well math 12x classes. After a test which we did poorly on, she told us we were supposed to be the cream of the crop of seniors. "Well, you are the cream all right, " she said, "sour cream!" We all worked harder after that.
Being in education myself I can appreciate all that she has done and accomplished. I am sure she will be missed dearly and I am glad to have had her for my teacher. She is one of the examples that I use as a mentor for my own teaching.

Joyce, Joe and Sally and the entire Family, Viginia was an exceptionally great lady. Much of my memories growing up are with you, Virginia, Sam, and Aunt Jeannie. Boy were they all awesome to us kids! They were always welcoming, funny and cared about others. Going to their house was a treat. Virginia accomplished much in her life. She was respected for her academic accomplishments, had a great and dedicated career to teaching others, and was truly the best math teacher around. But she and Uncle Sam did a really great thing in life. They together were able to extend the very best of them to you and to many others. She will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with you always.

I am so very saddened to know that Virginia passed away. Looking back on my life, I remember her as my high school math teacher, my co-worker, and dear friend. We retired together in June 1989 and although we were looking forward to our retirement years, it was difficult for us to leave the school which had become such a big part of our lives. I particularly felt that no one could ever replace Virginia Reina in the FSCS Math Department. She was the very best math teacher a student could have. When students came back to visit, they always remarked on how thankful they were to have had her as their math teacher. Yes, all of the accolades she received in her educational career were well deserved. Regretfully, I am not able to come to the funeral home to pay my respects to her and to all of the family since I am still in Florida. My husband and I send our condolences to all of the family.

Dear Joyce, Joe, Sally and Family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother. We will cherish the wonderful times we shared together with your parents and your grandmother. Their warm hospitality always made us feel welcomed and "at home". They are probably shopping together right now for ingredients for their delicious calzones! We hope your wonderful memories will help to comfort you in the days to come. You are all in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

To my cousins, Joyce, Sally, Joey and family. I was saddened to hear about the passing of Virginia. She was a wonderful Godmother to me and I have fond memories and so many pictures from our youth. It is heartwarming that she would join her cousin, Bella, so close to the anniversary of her 35 year passing (March 20,1972), They were close in life and I am sure that my Mom welcomed her home with open arms. They can now be joined with Uncle Joe, Aunt Jennie and my grandparents. So many members of the family are now in heaven. I wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you since it is difficult for me to get home. My Dad cannot travel and it is hard to leave him alone. My Dad also wanted to send his condolences. Please know that you are all in my heart and in my prayers and that Virginia is at peace.

I am a 1962 graduate of FSCS and was very fortunate to have Mrs. Reina as an algebra teacher. She brought clarity to a difficult subject and I considered her, along with many of my classmates, to be one of the best teachers we ever had. May you rest in peace, Mrs Reina. My condolences to all of the family.

Frankfort - Mrs. Virginia Lambert Reina, 78, of 509 S. Litchfield St passed away peacefully in the loving home of her son, daughter in-law and grandson, Joe, Bonnie and Samuel Reina on Friday, March 23, 2007.
She was born on November 3, 1928 in Frankfort, daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Merola Lambert. She attended Frankfort Schools and graduated from Frankfort Schuyler High School in June 1946. She attended the College of St. Rose in Albany, NY and Utica College of Syracuse University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Education with the class of 1948. She attended graduate school and received a Master's degree in audio-visual education. She received a National Science Foundation scholarship to the University of Buffalo. She completed 36 graduate hours in Mathematics and Computer Sciences at the State University College at Oneonta and Utica College. Virginia was united in marriage to Salvatore (Sam) Reina on August 18, 1951 in St. Mary's Church, Frankfort. It was a blessed union of 53 years until Sam's passing on June 13, 2004.
Virginia taught Mathematics and Computer Science at Frankfort High School from September 1949 until June 1989. She was selected by the Bureau Chief of Mathematics of the New York State Education Department to teach an academic in-service course on "New Mathematics" to all Herkimer County elementary teachers. She was selected by the Research Foundation of the City University of New York to be a member of the core curriculum team to develop match curricula for occupational education students.
Virginia was a member of the Frankfort Schuyler Teachers' Association for over forty years, Past President for two terms, Past Vice-President, Chair of the Professional Advancement committee, and a member of the Herkimer County Teachers' Association for over twenty years. She was a forty year member of NYSUT, Chair of the Central Conference of Math Teachers, a charter member assisting in the organization and inception of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York Sate, a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The New York State Board of Regents selected her to write questions for the yearly Regents exams. She received a grant from the Kettering Foundation of Colgate University for innovation in the use of electronic calculators in the classroom. She received three National Defense grants for equipment and costs for computer mathematics courses, one of which was a teletype terminal connected to Griffiss Air Force Base. In 1974 she received a national recognition, the "Outstanding Secondary Educator of America" award.
She was appointed to the Herkimer County Community College Board of Trustees by Governors Cuomo and Carey and served as Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary of the Board. During her tenure as Board Chair, she played a major leadership role on the board at a critical time in the college's history. As a Trustee her teaching background consistently echoed to her fellow trustees the importance of focusing on the students in the classrooms of HCCC.
Virginia was actively involved in the FSCS PTO, St. Mary's PTG, and St. Mary's Parish Council, of which she was a member and Chair of the Education committee for three years. The family deeply appreciates the love and dedication shown to Virginia by Bonnie, Joey and Samuel. They opened their home with loving hearts and welcoming arms to Virginia after Sam's passing. Virginia was able to live her final years of this life in the loving home of her childhood. There will be a special place for them in heaven for all they did to care for her when she no longer could care for herself. The family thanks Beth Schorer and Mary Sportello for providing care and solace to Virginia over the years.
"I'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places that this heart of mine embraces all day
through… I'll find you in the morning sun and when the night is new. I'll be looking at the
moon, but I'll be seeing you."
Mom, we are so proud that you are our mother. Go with the angels and finally be at peace.
