Oriskany - Mr. David L. Rex, 60, of River St. passed away, Friday, March 18, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Ilion on February 15, 1956, the son of Carol Smith Rex and the late Lyman Rex and he attended Ilion Schools, graduating with the class of 1974. David was at one time employed with Martin Reel and Remington Arms and later was employed in Research and Development for Dupont, Troy, MI, for many years. David had a deep love for music which he shared with his husband, David Bunal. They enjoyed their weekends at their creekside camp in Jewel, NY and trips to antique shops where David put his antique eye skills to work. Nothing brought him more joy than time together with family and friends. He was their helper, protector and counselor, always willing to share his wisdom, kindness and inner strength with those he knew and loved. To know him was to love him. David is survived by his loving husband, David Bunal; his mother, Carol Rex of Ilion; three daughters and their families who affectionately called him Papa, Carrie Plows, her husband Jerry Plows and their children Charity, Chloe and Chelsy; Terrie Rex, her companion Charles Howard and their children Adah and Aaxavier, and Maggie Rex, her fiancé Joshua Tucker and her child Paul, all of Ilion; their daughters' mother and David's previous spouse and lifelong friend Paula Kinney Rex; two sisters and brothers in law, Sherry and David Krick and Kathy and Kim Marlowe, all of Ilion; his step-children and their families, Deanna and Jason Procopio of Chittenango and Adam and Kim Bunal of Rome, his child Faith and their children, Paige, Liam, Zachariah and Lorelei; his In Laws, Stanley and Patricia Bunal, Joan and Tom Bowen and Mark and Elizabeth Bunal; his Godson and nephew, Shannon Marlowe; special cousin, Debbie Johnson and her husband, Scott; three women he affectionately called 'daughter', Eden Entwistle, Lashika Pierce Camara and Jolene Walker; his beloved canine, Molly and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Brian Rex; a sister, Patricia Charles; his nephew, Robert Charles and his granddaughter, Abigail Bunal. A memorial service will be held in David's memory on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 4 pm at the First United Methodist Church, 127 North Prospect St., Herkimer, NY. Fellowship immediately following. Arrangements are under the direction of the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc. 203 Second Ave. Frankfort. In keeping with David's wishes, there will be no public calling hours. David's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Hospice Care, Dr. Amy Gorczynski and staff, Dr. Alicia Detraglia and staff, the Cancer Center of the Mohawk Valley Health System, Carrie Buchannan Rex and Nancy and Bill Anton for the kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.
