Obituary of Roseanne Theresa Long

Whitesboro - Herkimer - Mrs. Roseanne Theresa Wells Long, 74, of Whitesboro formerly of Eastern Ave. Herkimer passed away Saturday, October 18, 2008 in St. Luke's Memorial Hospital. She was born in Utica on May 12, 1934, the daughter of the late Albert and Anna Lamay Wells. She attended Utica Catholic Academy and was a 1969 graduate of B.O.C.E.S. Nurses Aide Program. Roseanne was united in marriage to Donald W. Long on December 5, 1952 in Reno, NV. Mrs. Long was employed as a Nurses Aide at Herkimer Memorial Hospital, Mohawk Valley General Hospital. Mohawk Valley Nursing Home and lastly for Little Falls Hospital until her retirement in 1996. She was a true angel to all those she cared for. She was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a member of its Rosary Society. For many years she was an Election Inspector for Herkimer's District 4. Roseanne was a wonderful and loving mother who welcomed all her children's friends into her home. She was an avid hockey fan and especially enjoyed Clinton Comets games. Roseanne was a warm, cheerful and beautiful person who was loved by all and will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Roseanne is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Donald W. Long; six sons and five daughters in law, David & Sally Long of Fulton, Kenneth & Nancy Long of Ilion, Douglas & Kristen Long and Joseph & Francine Long all of New Hartford, Thomas & Mary Long of Fairport and Timothy Long at home; one daughter and son in law, Donna & David Schlosser of Henrietta; four grandsons, David Long, Matthew Long, William Schlosser and Nathaniel Schlosser; seven granddaughters, Erica Long, Kaela Long, Andrea Long, Kelly Long, Stephanie Long, Samantha Long and Alexandra Long; one great granddaughter, Emma Long and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one sister, Marie Wells, one brother, Albert Wells and her dear aunt, Rose Lamay Gardner who passed away in 1983. Rose was a surrogate mother to Roseanne when she was left an orphan following the untimely death of her mother, Anna. Her funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 am from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St. Herkimer and at 9:30 am in Sts. Anthony And Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home. "For some we loved, the loveliest and the best, That from His vintage rolling time hath prest, Have drunk from their cup a round or two before, And one by one crept silently to rest."
